Early Intervention Centre for Children with Hearing Impairment

The Early Intervention Centre for Children with Hearing Impairment at Salem Institute of Rehabilitation, under the management of the National Charitable Trust, provides comprehensive and family-centered rehabilitation services for children from birth to 6 years of age.
Established during 2016-17 with partial financial support from the Government of Tamil Nadu, the centre was founded with the belief that early identification and timely intervention can significantly improve a child’s listening, speech, language, and communication abilities.
The centre provides specialized services to children with hearing impairment who use hearing aids as well as to children who have undergone cochlear implant surgery. Our multidisciplinary team offers individualized intervention programs based on each child’s specific needs and developmental profile.

We strongly believe that parents are the most important partners in the rehabilitation process. Therefore, parent participation is encouraged throughout the intervention program to ensure that therapeutic strategies are effectively incorporated into the child’s daily routine.
Over the years, the centre has successfully mainstreamed more than 200 children into regular schools, enabling them to communicate effectively and participate actively in society.
At the Early Intervention Centre, our mission is to empower every child with hearing impairment to achieve their maximum potential through early diagnosis, appropriate amplification, evidence-based intervention, and continuous family support.

Features of Early Intervention center

Auditory verbal therapy

Auditory-Verbal Therapy focuses on developing listening skills through the effective use of hearing technology such as hearing aids and cochlear implants. Children are guided to understand sounds, recognize speech, and develop spoken language through structured listening activities.

Speech and Language Therapy

Speech and Language Therapy helps children improve their speech clarity, vocabulary, language comprehension, and communication skills. Individualized therapy programs are designed according to each child's age, developmental level, and communication needs.

Auditory Training

Auditory Training helps children learn to detect, discriminate, identify, and understand sounds in their environment. Through systematic activities, children develop the ability to process auditory information and improve their listening and communication skills.

Fine Arts

Fine arts activities such as drawing, painting, music, dance, storytelling, and craftwork encourage creativity and self-expression. These activities also support the development of fine motor skills, attention, social interaction, and emotional well-being.

Inclusive Preparation

Inclusive preparation focuses on equipping children with the academic, communication, behavioral, and social skills required for successful integration into mainstream schools. The program prepares children to participate confidently in regular classroom environments and everyday social situations.
