Day Care Centre for Persons with Muscular Dystrophy
Muscular Dystrophy (MD) is a group of inherited genetic disorders characterized by progressive muscle weakness and degeneration. The condition affects the proteins responsible for maintaining healthy muscle tissue, resulting in the gradual loss of muscle strength and function.
Muscular dystrophy can affect individuals of all ages, although certain types are diagnosed during infancy or early childhood. As the disease progresses, it may affect mobility, posture, respiratory function, and the ability to perform daily activities independently.
The DK Centre for Persons with Muscular Dystrophy is a specialized rehabilitation center that provides comprehensive support and therapeutic services for individuals affected by muscular dystrophy. This initiative is partially funded by the Government of Tamil Nadu and implemented by NCT from the year 2019-20
To strengthen rehabilitation services, the Government of Tamil Nadu has provided physiotherapy equipment worth ₹14 lakh to the center. Our team of qualified physiotherapists offers regular physiotherapy services through both center-based and home-based rehabilitation programs, ensuring that individuals with limited mobility receive continuous care in their own homes.
Beyond physiotherapy, our professionals provide guidance and support in accessing various government welfare schemes and entitlements. This includes assistance in obtaining disability identity cards, maintenance grants, motorized wheelchairs, and other assistive devices and support services offered by the government.
The center is committed to improving the quality of life, functional independence, and social participation of individuals with muscular dystrophy through rehabilitation, community-based support, and access to essential government resources.
